NPower Canada engaged Mitch to help create a more inclusive environment for Indigenous youth in its technology programs. Rather than a traditional outreach model, the work focused on collaborating with Indigenous communities to co-design recruitment protocols and an Indigenous-led outreach strategy.
This included forming the Indigenous Youth Tech Career Pathways Advisory Council, bringing together Elders, youth, and Indigenous organizations to guide program design. The resulting model introduced Indigenous-relevant content, wraparound supports, and a clear pathway from GED through training to supported tech internships.
CodersNorth was a project under Elephant Thoughts, created to provide free technology and coding resources for Indigenous youth while also serving as an in-class resource for educators. Mitch contributed to curriculum design, cultural mapping concepts, coding modules, and the integration of Indigenous worldviews from elders in several different communities. The platform launched in March 2019 and operated until 2025, when it was discontinued due to funding cuts and changes in grant availability. The work continues through Elephant Thoughts in other capacities.
The Indigenous Friends Association (IFA) partnered with Mitch to co-create curriculum for a digital skills program for Indigenous youth, including the development and naming of the INDIGITAL program. Mitch also supported program delivery in Sagamok First Nation and helped design a sustainable model for INDIGITAL 2.0, enabling the program’s expansion nationwide and increasing access to transferable, employable digital skills.
Mitch founded and led a grassroots non-profit organization delivering STEM, coding and robotics programs to Indigenous youth across Canada. He designed and delivered the programs, built the organization from the ground up, and supported delivery in multiple communities.
The Mikinaak Education Initiative concluded in 2020 due to pandemic-related limitations. Its program design and learnings were later integrated into the Indigenous Friends Association's programming, allowing the work to live on through their multiple successful programs.
Virgin Mobile Canada Regeneration Event. Mitch met with Sir Richard Branson ahead of a panel discussion on barriers to employment for Indigenous youth and has spoken at events on multiple occasions; advocating for Indigenous representation and inclusion across the tech sector.
