Phase One of Waasa Technologies’ Indigenous-led Telecom Network
The Maple Ridge Connectivity Project is the first pilot phase of Waasa Technologies Inc.’s plan to close mobile coverage gaps in Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation. Using neutral-host microcell technology, this project will deliver reliable mobile service, improve public safety, and support families and small businesses in the Maple Ridge Subdivision Area. This area is a new development zone, which means demand for reliable connectivity in the area is actively growing.
Neutral-Host Model: One infrastructure build supports multiple carriers (Bell, Rogers, TELUS, and local public safety agencies).
Backhaul: Nodes connect through existing fibre backbone already available in Sagamok.
Spectrum: Each carrier continues to operate on their own licensed spectrum. Waasa provides the physical infrastructure (microcell sites and radios), while carriers enable service by provisioning their licensed frequencies on the nodes.
Placement: Nodes will be positioned on existing utility poles to minimize disruption and reduce costs. Cells could also be deployed on dedicated masts where applicable.
Families & Business: Stronger, more reliable mobile service at home and work.
Public Safety: EMS, Fire, and Police communications strengthened across coverage zones.
Economic Growth: Supports local entrepreneurs, remote workers, and small business expansion.
Indigenous Sovereignty: Waasa ensures infrastructure, control, and revenues stay in the community.
This project is designed to leverage Indigenous and federal infrastructure funding programs to cover capital expenses. With low operational costs and multiple carrier tenants, the project is low-risk and high-impact.
Waasa Technologies Inc. invites carriers, funders, and community partners to support the Maple Ridge Connectivity Project — helping close the digital divide while ensuring Indigenous-owned infrastructure remains in the community.
